The British Association of Dermatologists issued a news release yesterday to inform doctors to be aware of the allergic reaction.
Nickel allergy is common, and people who are allergic to nickel may get a rash on their cheek or ear if they spend a lot of time talking on a cell phone containing nickel. They might also get a rash on the fingers if they send lots of text messages, according to the association.

HIV patients who began treatment earlier than is currently recommended lived longer compared to those who followed guidelines, US and Canadian researchers found.
HIV virus ravages the immune system?s T-cells that fight off germs. Once this process begins, people are vulnerable to a series of diseases that can be fatal. Current guidelines by the government and the International AIDS Society recommend that patients who are not yet having AIDS symptoms delay starting on retroviral drugs until their T-cell count fall below 350 per cubic millimeter of blood. Healthy people have more than 800. The recommendation was given as retroviral drugs can cause heart and cholesterol problems, diarrhea, nausea and other side effects.

LONDON (Reuters) - Pills used to treat common skin infections caused by fungi also appear to help some people with severe asthma, according to a British study published on Monday.
Volunteers with an allergic reaction to one or more fungi showed significant improvements in their asthma after taking antifungal itraconazole pills, David Denning at University Hospital of South Manchester and colleagues reported.
Airborne fungi can worsen asthma but the study published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine is the first to show that antifungal therapy can actually improve severe asthma symptoms, the researchers said.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - About 3 million U.S. children have a food or digestive allergy — an 18 percent increase over the past 10 years, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported on Wednesday.
Eight types of food account for 90 percent of these food allergies: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy and wheat, the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics found.
Reactions range from a tingling sensation around the mouth and lips, to hives and sometimes even death in the most severe cases.
